Kids Ballroom and Latin
Introducing a Ballroom Dancing Program
Marie Zimmer has been teaching Ballroom & Latin to kids and adults over the past 16 years. She has taught for the Hamilton-Wentworth Separate School Board and Continuing Education Adult Classes and Community Centers. Marie is proud to introduce, a new innovative dance program for children. You will be pleased with ease and progress of enjoyment your child will experience through qualified and enthusiastic instruction. Ballroom dancing is fun and easy. The program teaches rhythm and timing with dance and creative movement. Students will be learning basic dance skills through dance movement, dance and music games, and the introduction of popular social & international style dances. Student may learn basics to Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, Salsa, Rumba, Cha Cha, Hustle, Polka and more.
Achievement
Marie's goal is to teach children dance basics, music and rhythm early on so that they may enjoy and seek out dancing for the rest of their lives. Marie's Program is an ongoing program that allows students to earn certificates recognizing achievement in dance through a Medal System modeled after a proven teaching method. The Medal System of Bronze, Silver and Gold, helps students set and achieve goals, which gives students a sense of accomplishment and confidence as they achieve each level. This is similar to earning different color belts in Karate.
Ballroom Dancing - What Is It?
Ballroom dancing includes the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Salsa, Cha Cha and other dances from around the world. Many of these dances started as activities for the wealthy in elaborate ballrooms and fancy costumes, but they are now practiced by people of all backgrounds. Ballroom dancing with a partner requires good balance, a sense of rhythm and strong body awareness. Ballroom dancing is a great way to improve your fitness and flexibility and release stress and make you more popular at school dances.
Ballroom Dancing - Getting Started
Many schools are now making ballroom dancing a part of their fitness program. If you've seen the flick, Mad Hot Ballroom, you'll know that ballroom dancing is also a popular extra-curricular activity at some schools and it can become very competitive. If you'd like to start learning how to waltz or tango, ask your teacher about adding ballroom dancing to your P.E. program, or see if there's a teacher at your school who's interested in starting a ballroom dancing club.
Ballroom Dancing - Competitive Sport
Competitive ballroom dancing or dance sport competitions are held around the world and dancers are judged on the difficulty of their steps and the chemistry with their partner. A World Championship for competitive dancing has been held annually since 1909. The 2005 World Dance sport Championships will be held in Germany in July 2005. Competitive ballroom dancing is being considered as an event for future Olympics.
