Teen Hip Hop – Beginners 14 & Up

This class is designed for teens as an introduction to basic principles of Hip Hop dance. No dance experience is needed--just a willingness to have fun. We will cover aspects of hip hop dance such as the basic bounce, hip hop posture and energy and styles such as popping, locking, and waving. There will also be some study of choreography. Wear clothing that is comfortable and loose-fitting; no jeans; clean athletic shoes (no gravel, dirt, etc.) All movement will be modest & age appropriate. All music will be free of questionable lyrics.

About Marie

Marie Zimmer was born in Minto, New Brunswick, Canada and started dancing when she was six. After moving to Hamilton, Ontario, she teamed up with one of the Best Toronto Based Dance Schools "Roland and Romaine School of Dance" danced Jazz, Ballet and Modeling and she joined the "Pig & Whistle Dancers" who performed on TV Network. She performed for local Theatres and did Fashion Shows. In 1976 she began teaching and training at Fred Astaire Studios and took 4 students to the Canadian Amateur Competitions and all 4 students won first place. Marie Zimmer competed in the Canadian Professional Latin Championships and in 1973 she placed first at the Canadian Professional Dance Competitions and achieved a top teacher and Top Studio awards recognized through the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. In 1990 she began working as An Artist in the Classroom for the Hamilton-Wentworth School Board and has been teaching children and adults Social & International Ballroom & Latin Dancing, Folk, Jazz, Ballet, Line dancing, Hip-Hop and choreographs theatrical dances.
